therapeutic massage for the equine and canine athlete or couch potato

Nicker and Bark, LLC, is owned and operated by Ingrid Abrash, a certified equine and canine sports massage therapist, serving Los Angeles and its surrounding areas.

Nicker and Bark, LLC offers therapeutic sports massage for horses and dogs, whether they be athletes or couch potatoes. Comprehensive, therapeutic massage increases circulation, and by extension, alleviates a number of ailments, including soreness, arthritis, and muscle spasms while also increasing range of motion. Moreover, massage provides a reliable method of determining what ails your horse or dog -- providing information that an x-ray will never detect. A muscle is a muscle, whether on a equine, canine or human frame, and horses and dogs hold tension much the same way we do.

Most important, however, equine and canine massage is a way to provide a higher level of care to animals who only seek to please and take care of us. Indeed, any tension and stress we may feel is also felt by our equine and canine companions. Providing them the opportunity to be heard through a comprehensive massage allows us to keep tabs on their overall health.

Ingrid and Monty, a 26-year-old TB and happy customer

For an appointment, to discuss prices or to determine whether massage may be right for your horse or dog, please call or e-mail me. A massage takes at least an hour and possibly more, depending on the specific needs of the horse or dog. I require the horse or dog "owner" to be there for the first massage, so you can see what I see and feel. After a massage, it's important to take your equine or canine companion on a nice brisk walk, which I will be happy to do for you -- but is something you should really do yourself.  Often you can see an immediate spring in your horse's or dog's step. While massage provides numerous benefits, it is in no way a substitute for veterinary medicine. I love what I do and am happy to discuss it at length, so please do not hesitate to call or write me.

Ever notice how horses love to roll around in the dirt?  They're massaging themselves! Next time you turn your horse out to roll, watch carefully to see how and where they massage and stretch.
